Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS)

OBSESSIONS:  are thoughts, ideas or images that keep coming into your [your child] mind, or that you [they] cannot stop thinking about even though you [s/he] does not want them to.

COMPULSIONS: are behaviours or habits that you [your child] cannot stop doing or feels they have to do although you [s/he] knows that they do not make sense or are excessive.

INSTRUCTIONS: Answer each question based on the average occurrence of each item over the past week. The first 5 questions relate to obsessive thoughts, the last 5 questions relate to compulsive behaviours.

4.Resistance against obsessions: How hard do you [does the child] try to stop the thoughts or ignore them? *
5.Degree of control over obsessive thoughts: When you try [the child tries] to fight the thoughts, they can be beat? *
6.Time occupied by compulsive behaviours: How much time do you [does the child] spend doing these things in a day? *
7.Interference due to compulsive behaviours: How much do these habits get in the way of school or doing things with your [his or her] friends? *
8.Distress associated with compulsive behaviours: How upset would you [the child] feel if you [s/he] could not do the habits? *
9.Resistance against compulsions: How hard do you [does the child] try to stop or fight the habits? *
10.Degree of control over compulsions: When you try [the child tries] to fight the habits, they can be beat? *
